About Hapaki Farm...

Hapaki Farm is a family owned and operated business. In Hawaii, family is very important to us. We call it "Ohana". Family members come together and kokua (help) whenever needed.

In 1950, Mauna Loa, which means Long Mountain, came to life and erupted. Lava started to flow down the southwest slope to the Pacific Ocean. The flow reached the ocean and changed its direction three times. We know this lava flow as 1st lava flow, 2nd lava flow and 3rd lava flow. Located on the northern end of the 1st lava flow is Hapaki Farm.

In 1993, our home was finally ready for us. We moved in onto this lava flow. Lava, lava everywhere. We have cool and sometimes cold mornings, warm midmornings, hot afternoons with ocean breezes, and cool evenings with mist or rain. Our weather is almost predictable.

Our first seeds were planted in 1994. We dug holes into this virgin lava with hand tools, nurturing and cultivating the coffee trees like they are family.

Our plants are like us humans who like to be nurtured, pampered, talked to, held gently and disciplined with TLC (tender loving care).

Hapaki Farm presents "Grandma's Choice" 100% Kona Coffee. Grandma loves to drink good tasting, smooth Kona Coffee. She remembers drinking Kona Coffee as a "kid". There was coffee and water at breakfast.

How we process our coffee...
Our coffee "cherries" are hand picked when red and ripe. The processing is done immediately. The cherries are washed in water. The red skin is removed. The beans are then fermented to remove mucilage to prevent improper drying. The beans are then rinsed well and dried in the hot Hawaiian sun. They are now called parchment. The parchment is removed from the bean resulting in "green" coffee beans. They are now ready for roasting. Throughout the processing is grandma's watchful eyes and it must be grandma's way.

During the roasting process, one can detect Kona Coffee roasting. The air becomes fragrant with a delicious aroma inviting you to enjoy a cup of "Grandma's Choice" 100% Kona Coffee.

We are grateful and proud to be a native Hawaiian family, able to tend to the land and make barren lava become productive. We are grateful that we can reflect and appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds us. The mornings with the sounds of the trees in the breeze and the sounds of the birds. The hot afternoons that makes us appreciate the ocean breeze and the shade of the trees. The evenings that cools everything and lets us reflect with the beautiful Kona sunset. The flowers that thrive and bloom on Hapaki Farm scenting the evenings with fragrances unique to Hawaii.

"We are truly blessed."
